Hillclimb

MG Car Club Newcastle

On Sunday the 19th of April Jacob and I had a go at Hill Climb for the first time.

The event was a club meet held by the MG Car Club of Newcastle at their Ringwood facility north of Newcastle

It was an enjoyable day of motorsport for a very small investment of $80.00.

While Hill Climb does not supply a large amount of track time compared to other forms of motorsport, it is still good fun and rewards consistency and precision, all the things I lack really.

I will defiantly go again that’s for sure.

Round 3

SMSP Amaroo South

Round 3 of the Prospeed Racing NSW Supersprints was held on the 26th of April and was a great day with a great turn out

The day started with a heavy fog with the promise of a nice day once it cleared.

The car was a Jet, and it was so much fun to drive it is difficult to explain it adequately.

I was happy with the time I managed although having not been there before I don’t know if it is good or bad.

I ended up pacing 30th out of a field of 70+ with a time of 1:05 which i think is reasonable for an NA 2ltr, it certainly felt on the quick side. Going back next weekend for the CSCA Round. Can’t wait for that.

It`s The Little Things

Can Make the Difference

I have Jacobs mighty Exel in the shed for some post racing maintenance, and to corner weight it, when I noticed, these ugly rusty bonnet pins, so I decided to do something about it.

When I looked closer, I noticed the backing plate was screwed in, not Tech Screws surely!

Yep, Tech Screws it is. I am a little surprised by this frankly because the rest of the car has been built to a high standard. It`s not perfect by any means but its well-built and well set up.

Outside of corner weighting and treating it to a new set of tyres, we are not changing anything at this point.

I cleaned it up and put it back together but I just couldn`t deal with the Tech Screws, so the only other thing I had to hand were Rivets.

I know it’s a racing car, not a show car but hey….

The Excel

Jacob`s Debut

My Son Jacob made his racing debut at the first round of the Pro Speed Racing NSW SuperSprint Championships on the Shelly Circuit at One Raceway in Goulbourn NSW on the 7th of March.

Apparently, it was “Mad Fun”, whatever that means?

The track is about 5 hour’s drive from home, and we both had to work the day before, so it was a 1am start. Still, it was worth it.

So, 2nd only time ever on track. Never driven this car, never driven this circuit. How did he go? Well, he beat the only other Excel by a second and half, and that was on 6-year-old tyres, so, NOT BAD, not bad at all….
